House of Deputies Committee 24 - Privilege & Courtesy/HoD presents its Report #06 on Resolution A170 (Celebrate Jacqueline A. Means and the 45th Anniversary of the First Official Female Ordination) and moves:

Resolved, That the House of Deputies of the 80th General Convention gives thanks for the life and ministry of the Reverend Jacqueline A. Means on this the 45th Anniversary of her ordination to the priesthood of The Episcopal Church, on January 1, 1977, the first official ordination of a woman; and be it further

Resolved, That we celebrate her as a true pioneer, trailblazer, and role model for Episcopal women priests following the vote of the 1976 General Convention to ordain women to all orders of ministry, including the Episcopate; and be it further

Resolved, That we give thanks for her many ministries: parish priest, prison chaplain, Director of Prison ministries for the Bishop of the Armed Forces, and for her work with the Coalition against the Death Penalty for Juveniles, as director of the Cummins Mental Health Center in Hendricks County, and for her service as a member of the Indianapolis Metro Council, the Indiana Juvenile Justice Task Force, and the Indiana Interreligious Coalition for Human Equality; and be it further

Resolved, That we commend her for establishing a halfway house and a prison alternative for women inmates the camping program for residents of the Rockville Training Camp and the state boys and girls detention schools; and a program for training volunteers on the rubrics of inmate visitation; and be it further

Resolved, That we commend the Rev. Jacqueline A. Means as a beacon in The Episcopal Church this day and all the days of her life.
