Resolved, that the House of Bishops of the 80th General Convention of The Episcopal Church, gathered in Baltimore, Maryland, gives thanks to Almighty God for life, ministry, and labors of the Reverend Dr. William Norgren, who died on 24 February 2022 at the age of 94, who served the Church under four Presiding Bishops, including 20 years from 1975 to 1995 first as assistant ecumenical officer and then as ecumenical officer of the Church, and whose seven decades of ordained ministry were singularly devoted to the healing and reconciliation of the unhappy divisions within the Christian family; and further recognizes his service as executive director of the Commission on Faith and Order of the National Council of Churches from 1959 to 1971, and especially his effective work, even in formal retirement, in collaboration with the late Reverend Canon Professor J. Robert Wright, on behalf of “Called to Common Mission” which, in 2001, resulted in the celebration of our historic covenant of full communion with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.
