House of Bishops Message #232

The House of Bishops informs the House of Deputies that on Jul 9, 2022 it considered resolution A220 (David Booth Beers). The house acted to:

Adopt - HB Only

Resolved, that the House of Bishops, meeting at this 80th General Convention of The Episcopal Church, gathered in Baltimore, Maryland, gives thanks to Almighty God for the life, witness, and ministry of David Booth Beers, Esq., who died on 3 April 2022 and who, having cut his canonical teeth as Chancellor to the Bishop of Washington, held the office of Chancellor to the Presiding Bishop (the third so to do) with distinction for almost three decades from 1991 to 2018, serving selflessly four Presiding Bishops, and who, with clarity and resolve, labored to preserve the integrity and common life of the Church during a period of our history when that integrity and common life were under threat from without and from within; and further whose devotion to the Church and whose assiduous application to new and uncharted legal and canonical territory never robbed him either of his keen pastoral sensitivity or of his infectious sense of fun and delight in the more comical side of ecclesial life; and further recognizes that, notwithstanding his work at the highest levels of Church life, he remained grounded, with his beloved wife, Peggy, in the daily life of his parish of Saint Patrick’s, Washington DC; and further sends the assurance of our condolences and prayers to Peggy and to their family.
